Writing blog posts as the last thing I do at night has been making it hard to get to sleep. Yesterday I left the blog alone and slept well so today I done everything I had to do early and am posting this now...
I am much happier waking up early and getting my stuff done towards the beginning of the day than staying up late at night.
There's an idylic silence to being the first up in the morning. You can make breakfast and drink coffee before having to speak to anyone, and can get any quick reading done before getting any work done.
Today I had my first piece of writing published online. It is not the best piece of writing I could do or have done, it is quite dull, but it is nice to have had someone else publish something I have written to somewhere where is at least some readership.
I have added the article to my 'Observations, Opinions and Facts' page.
The article is part of a series of student writers writing about their constituencies politics, I like the idea as students discussing national politics usually end up with poorly formed, idealistic ideas or regurgitating their parents opinions. National politics fustrate me, debate normally just ends up as petty bickering about various peoples feelings of entitlement and self-righteousness.
I would much rather read or write about a cultural phenomenon or part of the world not often reported on. Objective writing like this is good because its about interesting things and introduces new knowledge to the reader, rather than confirming or arguing the readers ideologies.
You do not learn anything from opinion.
I am reading The Common Reader book of essays by Virginia Woolf. It is heavy going, I think Woolf is wonderful because of her obscurity. Although I am reading straight through the essays and do not claim to have fully taken them in they are great because you know how much depth and meaning she has imbibed into them.
Today I finally wrote up my experience of visiting Kiev with my girlfriend. We stayed there at her parents over New Years, I have been to some ex-Soviet states before but having a native to show you around a new place is always the most rewarding and insightful way to see a place.
I did not expect it to be but writing about something more personal was actually quite draining and after writing I am quite drained so this will be short.
